Highlights from Paleo f(x) 2018

I just got back from an awesome trip to Austin for the Paleo f(x) 2018 conference. It was a great event, filled with really high-caliber people who were very interested in holistic health, improving athletic performance and developing themselves emotionally and spiritually.

Paleo f(x) was more fun for me that many of the fitness conferences I have attended, as the participants seemed to be at a higher level of knowledge, so they could really appreciate the things I was sharing and asked very intelligent questions as well.

So, I’d like to share some highlights from the trip and show you some video clips of my presentations, to get you excited about attending Paleo f(x) 2019! This year’s event happened over three days, and I had workshops, panels or lectures every day.

Friday, April 27

This first day began with my Primal Pattern® Eating – Identifying your individual needs meal-to-meal workshop. This was a very short, 55-minute version of the eight-hour webinar that is being turned into an online course.

I taught the key points of Primal Pattern® Diet Typing and people really seemed to like my approach that there is no “right diet” for everybody… each of us has unique needs. I shared several methods that can help people identify their own unique dietary requirements from meal-to-meal so they can live and love fully.

My next presentation was a keynote address, The Last 4 Doctors You’ll Ever Need: How to Get Healthy NOW. I had a great time, including singing some of the 4 Doctors songs! I was so touched by the number of people who came up to me afterward to let me know how much they really loved my presentation. Some even said it was a mind-altering, life-changing experience for them.

In between these presentations, I did an interview with Mike Bledsoe from Barbell Shrugged, which was fun. We talked about a variety of topics for well over an hour, including the use of plant medicines, intimacy and relationships.

Later that evening, Penny persuaded me to go to the Speaker’s Dinner at the Paleo f(x) headquarters. Typically, I don’t like to go to many social events but I actually had fun at this one. The food was rather good, as you would expect from an organization that really lives their values. (Thank you Paleo f(x)!)

I got to meet and chat with a lot of amazing people there, including Ben Greenfield, Dr. Joe Mercola and Darryl Edwards from the U.K. There were also a number of C.H.E.K Professionals who were presenting at the conference, including Andy Petranek, Sara Gustafson, Mike Salemi and Aleks Rybchinskiy.

Saturday, April 28

I started Saturday off with my workshop, Roll, Wiggle, Crawl and Climb to Walk, Run and Jump Pain-Free, where I taught attendees how to use the science of infant development to enhance their overall motor skills and body mind integration, and how to modify an exercise either to make it easier or harder according to the needs of the client.

There were several people in the class with physical problems (back pain and sacroiliac joint pain) who said they had not been able to get rid of their issues for years, but that the pain was completely gone after doing the class! These are powerful exercises!

In the early afternoon, I was scheduled to do a book signing, so I got to spend a few individual moments with a whole lot of people who had purchased my book, The Last 4 Doctors You’ll Ever Need. We did a special print edition of the book for the conference, but you can buy the e-book version any time from the C.H.E.K Institute website.

During my late afternoon workshop on Big Bang Exercises, I showed attendees how to use exercise specifically so they can get the most out of their workouts in a short period of time by learning how to integrate planes of movement and using different types of strategies such as combining biomotor abilities and various concepts.

I finished the day with a mastermind panel, Fitness for the Rest of Us, where I shared the stage with several experts. We discussed many important things — using exercise intelligently, being more consistent and listening to your body — and there were some very good questions from people in the audience.

One of the other panelists was Eva Twadorkens, a two-time Olympian in Alpine Skiing and six-time World Champion. She is just an amazing, beautiful woman and I loved sharing the panel with her.

Sunday, April 29

I began my final day at Paleo f(x) with another panel, Solid Relationships, Great Sex and YOU, that was quite fun and again there were some really amazing people on the panel.

One of the panelists, Dr. Keesha Ewers, a psychotherapist, integrative medicine expert and a doctor of sexology, really enjoyed what I shared and asked me if I would be interested in doing a webinar with her, so look for that in the future.

Kayla Daniels, who wrote The Whole Soy Story, was at the conference and participated on this panel too. She had some beautiful wisdom to share as well and we got into some of the very important things people overlook about relationships, like the importance of loving yourself first and not expecting your partner to be responsible for making your day perfect or meeting your sexual needs.

Also, we got into a lot of neat stuff about relationships and sex and ways to enhance your sex life as you age and mature. It was really quite fun.

Then, I had a great meeting with Amanda Wee and her partner Simon Cheng from Pique Tea. They make this awesome tea in a crystallized form. Instead of using tea bags, they actually distill crystals from the tea and get it down to its essence. You can pour these crystals right into a cup of water, but not too hot so it doesn’t kill the enzymes and the micro-nutrients in them.

You know I’m not a person who toots the horn for other people unless their products are really good. Amanda sent me some samples and, boy, the first time I took a sip, I was amazed! There is so much energy and power in their product.

During lunch, I was on a really cool panel about psychedelics and exploring consciousness. I got to meet Dennis McKenna who’s been one of my heroes for years. I’ve studied the work of Dennis and his brother, Terence, for probably the past 15 years. I’ve read lots of books by Terrence and studied countless documentaries that featured Dennis and have seen various psychedelic conferences with Dennis presenting. I also got to purchase a copy of Dennis’ new book about his life with Terence and share one of my books with him too.

During the panel, we had some very very good discussions about the things people need to be aware of with the now happening psychedelic craze, the differences between recreational and spiritual use, the kinds of things that happen when you’re on a properly run shamanic journey and the importance of integration.

Other Presentations

C.H.E.K Practitioner Level 4 Aleks Rybchinskiy, from Primal Fusion Holistic Health & Performance, did a couple of workshops at Paleo f(x) on shoulder training and conscious training for athletes.

While Aleks was there, he entered the Onnit Jiu Jitsu competition, which was very big. There were matches going on pretty much the whole time. A lot of people competed in it and Alex won gold and silver medals in different categories. I was really impressed with his accomplishments.

Aleks’ partner, Sara Gustafson, a very skilled Holistic Lifestyle Coach Level 3, taught a workshop on pain-free performance. She also contributed to the Death of the American Male panel. I’m sure she had plenty to say about that!

Mike Salemi presented a couple of workshops on kettlebell training and Bulgarian bag training that were both full. Those of you who follow my blog know that I coached Mike for about two and a half years and he’s now one of the most highly respected kettlebell athletes in the world.

More Interviews

While in Austin, I did another podcast with the MindPump Media team. It was my third podcast with these guys and every one of them has been fantastic.

It was great to see Adam, Sal, Justin and Doug. They rented this beautiful big house in a lovely part of Austin and we talked for more than two hours.

We went deep into many important issues from spiritual development to God and religion, health and the state of the world, the challenges of the modern era of technology and the internet and how people are getting consumed by it, and how I have been challenged by all that stuff and see my students getting challenged and how they handle it.

On the final day of our trip, I did two more interviews, one with Aubrey Marcus and Kyle Kingsbury from Onnit. Aubrey and I did a podcast late last year that was a big hit. I have had people tell me it was the best podcast they have listened to!

This time, we went further and deeper into a lot of really important issues, including spiritual growth and development, the challenges of love and relationships and some of the obstacles we face in the world today.

Normally, Kyle, also a C.H.E.K Professional and the head of Onnit’s health and performance division, discusses athletic health and performance issues in his podcast. This time, Kyle hit me with a surprise, as he really wanted me to get into the issues that we’re now dealing with concerning the health of our soils.

This is an important topic that I am quite passionate about. (Check out my DVD Nutrition: The Dirt Facts for a more detailed presentation on the challenges the world is facing with our soils.) It’s also the topic of some upcoming vlogs I am doing with Food Democracy Now, so keep your eyes open for the Earth Warrior series that should be out in the next few weeks.
