The Seven A’s of Healing Part 6: Assertion

Hope all of you enjoyed an awesome weekend! Maybe, you spent time resting or you took a couple of hours to get caught up with my long Seven A’s of Healing series that’s coming to an end real soon.

Even if you haven’t caught up yet, I hope you’ll pick up Dr. Gabor Mate’s great book, When The Body Says No: Exploring The Stress-Disease Connection. I know this is probably the sixth time you’ve read this recommendation, but I can’t stress it enough.

I like to give credit where it’s due, and Dr. Mate has really done a service to all of us by writing this book as you’ll see when you read it.

In When The Body Says No, Dr. Mate defines assertion this way: It is the declaration to ourselves and to the world that we are and we are who we are.

That’s a bit poetic, which is fine for a guy like me who has a right brain that digs all that stuff. To bring that into a more left-brain awareness, let’s look at the meaning of the word assertion from Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary.

Assertion comes from assert to state positively or declare to maintain or defend (rights or claims). Assertion means the act of asserting something, asserted positively or confidently and in a persistent way.

So when we’re asserting ourselves, we are positive or confident in persistent ways. In relation to Dr. Mate and his Seven A’s of Healing, however, what does assertion have to do with healing?

The Seven A’s of Healing Part 6: Assertion

Having a dream

When it comes to asserting ourselves, we have to have some clear definition of what it is that we want or who we represent. This is what it means to have a dream and supportive core values.

As I’ve said a number of times, your yes has no value until you learn to say no. Until you’re conscious of your own core values, you don’t know when to say no and when to say yes.

So, what we want to do is to remember that it’s very, very important to establish a dream, goal or objective for ourselves.

But, many people say they don’t know what their dream is…

In those cases, as I’ve said before, you can find your way by getting clear about your nightmare. It’s the one thing in your life that, if it were effectively addressed, would free up the most energy and allow you to create your dreams, heal your body and live the life you would freely choose.

If it’s some kind of crisis like an illness or disease, then you already have a very clear goal or objective. And, if you’re dream isn’t big enough, you can establish a goal or objective that somehow adds nourishment, value and meaning to your life.

That goal may be changing the shape of your body. It may be earning a better living or creating more abundance and prosperity in your life. It may be finding your lover or soulmate. It could be any number of things.

The key thing to remember: Quantum physics shows us that potential is everywhere in a wave state or a state of possibility. What we learn is whatever we put our awareness on collapses the wave function and manifests so the wave becomes a particle or something tangible.

If we are not conscious about how we’re using our mind, we’re acting out unconscious choices and behaviors. Remember, the unconscious mind is a lot more powerful than the conscious one.

Think you really know how much horsepower you have in a car? If you’re unconscious, you can easily kill yourself with all of that power. But if you’re conscious, you can direct the car to a specific objective or place. If you’re racing a car, then you have to keep control of it and go as fast as you can, which requires skill, awareness and presence.

In other words, wherever we direct our attention, we put potential into tension, which means we now move from pure potential into desire, an emptiness to draw us forward to some sort of outcome or event.

Our dream is really what we’re choosing to focus our awareness and intention on which draws potential into actuality. Sometimes, this requires consistency… it’s a process.

For example, if your dream is to find your soulmate, the universe may have to do a lot of work. That person could be on the other side of the world, but if you’re too impatient and childlike and you’re constantly complaining because you haven’t found that person yet, you’re not being respectful about the fact that even the universe has to do a lot of work to respond to you.

But if you’re doing your part by trusting in the process and your knowledge of how life works, you know that each time you focus your awareness and intention, you put potential into tension.

In the principles of quantum physics, each time you do that, you increase the probability you will manifest exactly what it is that you’re after.

I wouldn’t even bother telling you all of this if I didn’t have plenty of experience using these principles in my own life. In fact, I am standing inside one of them. It took focus, clarity and working with spirit to find this place I call the Heaven House.

It is a very important part of my own healing and meeting my own needs so that I could better serve the world… which is you.

The Grand Canyon test

During my vlog, I talk in greater detail about how the 4 Doctors plays into all of this, and if you haven’t read my book, How to Eat, Move and Be Healthy!, you’re in luck. The new second edition presents an overview of my 4 Doctors model and features specific exercises to bring more clarity to each of these components.

You’ll also learn about the Grand Canyon test, an exercise I developed for my students to examine their dreams. It’s akin to standing at the edge of the canyon and stating a dream, like “I want to lose 30 pounds in three months!”

When you do this, you’ll hear that same want repeated over and over. Three months later, you’ll get exactly what you asked for… which is wanting.

The Seven A’s of Healing Part 6: Assertion

Think about saying a slightly different thing, like “I have lost 30 pounds. Three months have gone by, and I look and feel great!” or “I chose to lose 30 pounds in 90 days. I look and feel great.” You will create that and the Grand Canyon will repeat it back to you.

The Grand Canyon test and other principles I discuss in my vlog are ones I use in my own life every day. Nothing that I’m talking to you about here is just a bunch of intellectual blah, blah, blah.

These are concepts that I work with all the time, and I love the way Dr. Mate organizes it in his Seven A’s of Healing.

I know they work. That’s why I’m sharing them with you.

Have a great week!

Love and chi,

Paul
